Rear Window Reveal Repair
- Procedure -

12. Back at the car. There now is a clear view of the reveal trim clips. Inspect the trim clips and replace as needed. You may find that some clips have disappeared, or that others are broken.

Check the top most clips to see how to position your replacements. Generally, the clip is placed with its tonque at top and pointing inward.

Trim screws whose heads have rusted to the point of uselessness may have to be coaxed free. There are a variety of techiniques:

  • Use a drill bit slightly larger than the screw and drill out the screw. Warning, it is possible to drill through the fiberglass into the vinyl roof!

  • Use a screw extractor.

  • If a screw has enough of a head left, tapping with a screwdriver and hammer may start the screw turning.

  • If a screw simply cannot be removed by any means, it is possible to drill a new hole near the old clip. The hole must be drilled with care. Warning, it is possible to drill through the fiberglass panel into the vinyl top!

The illustration at top right compares the old screws and clips with the replacements.

  • 13. The UFO clips are slightly larger than the originals and appear to press more tightly against the car in order to hold the trim. I found that backing off the scews a quarter turn allowed slight give in the clips and made for easier placement of the trim.
    14. Vacuum away all debris from the window frame and double check for cleanliness.
