Rear Window Reveal Repair

Replacing rusted reveal trim clips requires removing the rear window, which is a daunting job. It needs two days labor, protection of the car from the weather, the help of an assistant, and a variety of supplies. Fortunately, parts that fit your LeBaron are still available from better auto body shops. With care you can have professional looking results.

CLIPS - UFO Body Hardware brand reveal moulding clips #6002893 will replace your original clips. They are not an exact match being slightly taller than the originals. The clips come four to a bag and cost approximately $2.00 a bag. Buy more than you need. The example repair required 16 clips.

SCREWS - A supply of #10 thread, 1/2 inch Philips head screws are needed to replace clip screws that are damaged during removal or rusted beyond reuse. Try to find a close match to your original screw.

BUTYL - 3M brand 3/8th inch wide Windo-Weld sealer #051135 08612 will replace your original butyl seal and setting blocks (if needed). The sealer comes in 15 foot lenghts which will give you sealer to spare.

CLEANER - Old gasket material cleans up quickly with 3M brand General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner #08984. The cleaner is also useful for removing misplaced new sealer.


REMOVAL KIT - The Window Removal Kit #21400 from the Steck Manufacturing Company conveniently contains the wire and wire grips needed to cut the window from its butyl mount. Pointy, flat piece at lower right is meant to help feed wire through the butyl, but is ineffective due to the indentation surrounding the LeBaron rear window.

SUCTION CUP - A pair of suction cup-style dent pullers is helpful for removing the window that first critical inch and assisting in placement. Never depend on the suction cup to hold the glass! It can let go suddenly! Keep a firm grip on the glass at all times.

MISC. - Chemical resistant gloves, plastic bladed scraper, metal bladed scraper, brass bristle brush, flexible shaft screwdriver with Philips bit, standard Philips screwdriver, heat gun, scissors, goggles, masking tape, vacuum cleaner, shop rags, protective covering for: trunk lid, back seat, rear window opening (water proof), and pads for resting the rear window glass.
