There is a phantom on the Chrysler concept car turn-table. It has the look of the 1953 Chrysler Thomas Special and the Imperial D'elegance show cars created by Virgil Exner, Sr. It even has power approaching that of Imperial at its height - 350. Chrysler is calling it the '98 Chrysler Chronos, but the caption at the chryslercars.com Web site says "Chrysler Imperial." Could it be? Have a look for yourself. Is it a shadow of things to come?
Select "Chryslers & Imperials at Auburn '97" to view more than a dozen beautiful, rare Chryslers and Imperials found at the ACD Festival held Labor Day weekend in Auburn, Indiana. There's no gate-fee, and better yet, no golf carts!
It's not an Imperial, but it is a car of comfort and style: for sale, 1976 Chrysler Newport Custom. This four door sedan has air-conditioning, automatic transmission, power brakes, power steering, stereo with 8-track tape player and 50/50 front seats. The 400 c. i. d. V8 engine, to its advantage, does not have nor ever had the Lean Burn ignition system. Good tires and a world-weary wiseness make this 94,000 mile car ideal for the commuter or restorationist. Asking price is $2,000; the car is located in southwestern Ohio. For more information or to make an appointment, please contact Dave Duricy at.
Due to extremely low participation, the Imperial Mailing List Virtual Imperial Exhibition scheduled for July 4th has been canceled. My thanks, however, to Christopher Hoffman, Bob Schmitt and Brett Snyder for their willingness to display their fantastic Imperials.
